First Doctors Appt
Evan had his first doctors appt. Sept.6th ! We were nervous because we knew that before we left the hospital on Sunday his weight was down to 8lbs 13 oz. The hospital said that if he lost 10% of his birth weight we were going to need to start feeding him formula. Nicole and I both really didn't want to do this. But his weight today was 9lbs 3oz! So hes gaining it back fast. He also GREW! I know that is what babies do but still! He measured 21 inches long! the Doc said everything was great!!!

Birth Story PT.2
Ok so last time I talked to you Nicole was getting prepped for the Operation Room. We had to wait a little longer then we wanted. First because Nicole was getting nervous and the pain reliever wasnt working right for some reason. Her contractions were slowing down because they took her off the pitocin but she was still getting them, and second because there had just been a C-section right before us and they still needed to get the OR cleaned up and prepped for Nicole. We were wondering what was taking so long to get that stinking room cleaned up. We were ready to meet our baby and get Nicole some rest.
As you can see I was dressed to be in the room with Nicole during the operation. We finally started the move back to the room, I had to sit our side on a bench while Nicole was getting prepped in the room. It really made me nervous and anxious. So they finally came out and told me that could come in. As I walked in they had already started on Nicole. They had a chair right next to Nicole's head and big blue curtain at her neck. I was able to see as much of the surgery as I wanted and as little as I wanted. I stayed in the seat next to Nicole but I leaned up a couple times to see what was going on. I wasn't able to see IN but I got the general idea of what was happening. I thought for sure that I would get a little woozy from watching any of the surgery, but surprisingly it didn't bother me. When the Doctor pulled a baby boy I couldn't stop the tears!! I could barely get out the words to tell Nicole that we had a son!! I was so choked up!!!
Since Evan was a C-section baby he retained a little fluid and mucous in his lungs that normally get pressed out during a vaginal delivery. The gave him some oxygen under the warmer to get his O2 consumption up.
I was going back and forth between Evan and Nicole at this point. I wanted to be with my son but I also wanted to be there with Nicole while they were putting her back together. I know that sounds pretty weird but it was pretty gross. (It didn't bother me while I was there looking at it all but after we got to the post partum room it hit me about what I had just witnessed and could barely keep standing up.) The doctors wheeled Nicole and Evan to the recovery area where they let Nicole shake off the narcotics and weighed and measured Evan. I was able to take off my OR clothes and went out to the waiting room to let the new grandparents know that they now had a grandson!!!! They were so happy!!! Other families in the waiting room said that they wished they had a video camera! We all cried and hugged and then I had to go back to Nicole and Evan and let the grandparents make their calls to the new aunts, uncles, and Great-grandparents.
The nurse wheeled Evan out to the elevators to move him up to the nursery and the grandparents road up with us. I continued on to our room to drop off bags and charge my phone up and post my facebook update. The grandparents watched Evan get his first bath and get his hair brushed. I waited for the nurse to bring Nicole up to the room. After the nursery finished up the stuff that they needed they brought him down to the room and the whole family was able to hold him and snuggle with him and just enjoy is new baby smell!
About this time I start to lose track of time because I'm really tired and my adrenaline is dieing down.
Hopefully I can get Nicole to type her account and we can see how much of a difference it is from mine!

Birth story PT.1
| Dad on the drive to the hospital |
We arrived at the hospital a little early on Tuesday Sept. 6th 2011 we were scheduled to be there at 8pm to start the induction, but we were just so anxious sitting around the house waiting for time to go by that we just decided to go in. The weather was overcast with a very light misting at times. We weren't sure what we needed to bring up with us because we knew that a scheduled induction can take a while and I didn't want to bring all our bags in all at once. I left the food bag and the pillows in the car while we went and checked in.

Since we were early we had to wait in the family waiting room outside of the Labor and Delivery ward.
Lots of people waiting anxiously to hear news of their new family members. We sat in the waiting room for only a short time and a nurse came and got us and took us back to our room.
Our room was nicer then I remembered on the tour. It had a closet for our bags, recliner and a rocking chair. (I spent a lot of time in the recliner!!) The nurse gave Nicole her gown and soon mom was set up with an IV and laying down in her bed.

Pitocin is what makes Nicole's body start contractions. There are other things that they did but I will let Nicole tell you the info she wants too.
Nicole was at about 3cm around 11pm and she got some pain reliever for the contractions she was having. She was able to sleep for a while and that really helped me out because then I was able to relax for a little while.
Later (I cant remember when) they started increasing the pitocin every hour and her contractions started getting stronger. Nicole was really hurting so the put they epidural in and she instantly felt better. She starting progressing quite nicely every time the nurse checked Nicole seemed to increase from 5cm to 6, from 6 to 7, from 7 to 8, and then on Wednesday afternoon she got stuck at 9cm.

Nicole's doctor was on call Wednesday so she was able to talk with the nurse about what she thought was best and they decided that if Nicole hadn't progressed any further by 3:45pm that they would start getting Nicole ready for a c-section. Not the first option we had chosen but we were ok with it.
The parents showed up sometime around 3 so they were in the loop about what was going on.( Doesn't mean that they weren't nervous)
3:45 rolls around and no change so they started prepping Nicole for surgery.
Its taking me a long time to write out this blog because Evan is taking most of my time, so I'm splitting it in to two parts.
Evan Anthony Vinco
On September 7, 2011 at 5:44pm Evan Anthony Vinco was born
He weighed 9lbs 11oz
He was 19 1/2 inches long
And he is AWESOME!!
I'm so proud of my family. Everyone did a great job during labor, the birth, and the recovery.
Each person had obstacles they had to overcome and they all did great!
